
Recruitment Notice: Director of Office of Detention Policy and Planning

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the primary investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), is responsible for the detention and removal of aliens unlawfully present in the United States. ICE is recruiting a director for its recently formed Office of Detention Policy and Planning, the office responsible for planning and designing a detention system suited to ICE’s unique needs. To attract a broad pool of talented candidates, ICE is conducting a nationwide search of highly-qualified executives with leadership expertise and vision.
The Director of ODPP is a non-career member of the Senior Executive Service (SES). The position is located at ICE Headquarters in Washington, D.C. and reports directly to the Assistant Secretary. The Director of ODPP serves as the Assistant Secretary’s executive agent for detention policy and planning. The Director is responsible for developing national standards, policies, and procedures to reform and redesign ICE’s detention system. The Director will be responsible for designing a civil detention system to include appropriate standards for civil detention. The Director’s duties will include coordinating a comprehensive bed forecast, soliciting input from industry and advocacy groups, interfacing with Congress and the media, among others.
Candidates must possess a detailed knowledge of residential or correctional management. Experience with immigration policy is preferred but not required. The salary range is $117,787.00 - $177,000.00. Reasonable relocation expenses will be authorized.
