COLUMBUS, Ohio - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers late Tuesday captured an individual recently featured on America's Most Wanted in Columbus, Ohio.
Officers with ICE's Criminal Alien Program in Columbus arrested fugitive Jose "Carlos" Hernandez Salazar, a native and citizen of Mexico. He was initially contacted by Columbus Police on local charges before an ICE detainer was placed on him.
Referred to as "El Fantasma" or "the Ghost" Joel Borjas-Hernandez Salazar is among the top ten most wanted fugitives for the DEA.
He is wanted in connection with trafficking high-potency heroin throughout the Midwest and several related overdose deaths.
"I'm proud of the hard work and diligence of our officers for tracking down this dangerous individual. Now, not only has this illegal alien with an extensive criminal history been removed from the streets of Columbus, but he will ultimately removed from our country as well," said Vincent Clausen, field office director for the ICE Office of Detention and Removal Operations for Michigan and Ohio.
Information that led to Salazar's arrest was developed in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration and officers from the Franklin County Sheriffs Department.
