California man sentenced to more than 7 years for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine

FRESNO, Calif. — A 42-year-old Kern County man was sentenced Monday to seven and a half years in federal prison for distribution of methamphetamine, following an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Kern County Sheriff's Office and the Southern Tri-County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force.

According to court documents, on June 26, 2013, Jerardo Villareal, of Arvin, and co-conspirator Jorge Guevera were arrested after attempting to sell 17 pounds of methamphetamine to an undercover Kern County Sheriff's deputy they met up with in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant. Seventeen pounds of methamphetamine were found hidden in their vehicle.

"Methamphetamine is a powerful drug that destroys lives and devastates communities," said Michael Toms, resident agent in charge of HSI Bakersfield.

"As this sentence demonstrates, HSI will work closely with our law enforcement partners to ensure that those who bring this hideously addictive drug to our streets receive the justice they deserve."

On August 25, Guevera was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison.
