Honduran man sentenced for illegal re-entry

NEW ORLEANS – A citizen of Honduras was sentenced today to 12 months and one day in federal prison for illegal re-entry, following an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

German Alfredo Peralta-Rivera, 36, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier.  In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Barbier ordered that Rivera also be placed on three years of supervised release following his term of imprisonment.

According to court documents, on November 17, Rivera, an illegal alien, pleaded guilty to an indictment admitting he was previously removed from the United States and thereafter illegally re-entered the United States without the attorney general or the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security having expressly consented to his re-application for admission into the United States.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Joe La Rocca.
