ICE provided the second largest cadre of federal law enforcement personnel, deploying more than 200 officers in support of security and public safety efforts at the Republican National Convention (RNC) held in New York City August 30-September 3. On August 25, ICE's Federal Protective Service (FPS) deployed to New York City. ICE FPS personnel worked to ensure public safety and continuity of operations at federal facilities within the New York City area. |
ICE’s Federal Protective Service (FPS) demonstrated recently the effectiveness of the X-ray system used to scan vehicles for potential threats and the officers who use the system. An 18-wheel tractor-trailer truck going through routine X-ray scanning by FPS at the entrance to the Southeast Federal Center in Washington, D.C., on July 1 showed an image that appeared to be a missile packed in the trailer. |
ICE Federal Protective Service (FPS) Prepares for the DNC Convention. FPS Regional Director Ronald D. Libby conducts an interview updating the media on security measures in place for the Democratic National Convention. More than 200 FPS officers helped protect the federal facilities and government employees in the Boston area during the convention. Among the capabilities FPS deployed were Hazardous Material Response Teams, Explosive Detection Canine Units, a state-of-the-art Mobile Command Center, less than lethal crowd control weapons and patrol officers on foot, motorcycle, bicycle and patrol cars. |
FPS ready for a busy summer - This summer, FPS will be working with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to support security at some of the nation's largest events - including the G8 Summit, being held in Georgia June 8-10 (shown left), the World War II Memorial Dedication and the Republican and Democrat National Conventions. |
