Inside ICE: Volume 2, Issue 21Miami ICE Arrests 99 Fugitive Aliens In Weeklong OperationMiami—ICE detention and removal officers arrested 99 persons during a weeklong statewide operation targeting alien fugitives, many with criminal convictions for violent crimes. ICE Fugitive Operations teams in Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville and Orlando conducted Operation Clean Sweep, which ended September 30. The operation was part of an ongoing effort to identify and arrest fugitive criminal aliens—persons ordered removed by a federal immigration judge but who failed to comply with the order. Many of those arrested have been in hiding evading law enforcement for years. “Operation Clean Sweep” is part of our continued mission to keeping our communities safe by removing dangerous criminal aliens from our streets,” said Michael Rozos, field office director for the Office of Detention and Removal Operations in Florida. “Criminal aliens have a very high rate of recidivism and often re-victimize the community in which they reside. By finding and removing these fugitives, we are able to greatly enhance the public safety of Florida, while restoring integrity to our nation’s immigration system.” Many of the fugitives arrested during this operation have a history of violent criminal activity, including sexual assault of a child, domestic violence, child abuse, assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a law enforcement officer. |
