ICE agents applauded for anti-drug smuggling outreach at local schools

A recent San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial commended ICE for its outreach program calling for the program to be expanded with participation from high schools.

Law enforcement officials from ICE and the San Diego Police Department have been proactively reaching out to teenagers, school administrators and parents to warn them about the dangers linked to drug smuggling amid unprecedented drug war violence. The meetings have included students from middle schools and high schools near the U.S./Mexico border, including several evening programs with their parents. Agents explain the stiff criminal penalties that can ruin their future and the dangers associated with this disturbing trend when teenagers are recruited to smuggle drugs strapped to their bodies and apprehended at local ports of entry.
