SEVIS Newsletter: March 2007 Quarterly
E-Newsletter

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome to the first edition of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) E-Newsletter. This new format is being initiated to bring you information in a timely manner and to broaden access for the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) user community. In the past we have produced quarterly newsletters which have been printed and distributed at conferences and meetings and posted on the website.

We will continue to provide you with the latest information via newsletter on a quarterly basis. However, the newsletter will be distributed by broadcast message to the entire user community in this electronic format and will concurrently be posted to the website. Our content will be modified slightly as we incorporate working documents and job aids.

During October, November and December, SEVP conducted Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mandated data validation studies to measure SEVIS data integrity at selected schools. While we have not yet completed the analysis of the validation exercises, I would like to personally thank the schools that were asked to participate. Your participation during this unusually busy season was unprecedented; the integrity of the data that was subject to review is exceptional.

These exercises incorporated data using automated routines in SEVIS to ensure that the schools’ reporting burden was kept to a minimum. Validation exercises are essential to SEVIS data integrity as we measure the level of compliance with regulatory reporting and record keeping requirements. To ensure the ongoing reliability of student data, validation projects will continue on an ad hoc basis and will be an integral component of the recertification process.

Thank you for your timely cooperation!

Susan A. Geary, Director
