FROM THE DIRECTOR
It has been both a pleasure and honor to serve as the Director of the Student and Exchange
Visitor Program (SEVP). For three years I have seen the development of a program with a singular
and important mission grow from an initiative with ten employees to a program of 110 employees.
Within that three- year period I have also seen something remarkable happen: a relationship between
government and private sector grow into one of mutual respect with expectations of focus and
partnering that has lifted SEVIS to a level of strong cooperation and coordination.
I have enjoyed every opportunity to meet with you one- on-one at conferences and town halls.
With your ideas and feedback we put in motion those actions that continue to enhance a program
established with the understanding of balancing secure borders with open doors. It is your
relationship with us, SEVP/ICE/DHS, that commits and promotes educational exchange with the
knowledge that all of us are a vital part of homeland security.
SEVIS is a challenging commitment. A commitment that now brings me a new opportunity. I am
excited to be joining the Office of Exchange Coordination and Designation at the Department of State
as Deputy in SEVP and continuing our relationship.
In closing, I wish to thank the educational community for working with us in partnership. I have
always viewed SEVIS as an important tool in national security. You are on the frontline of ensuring
appropriate and accurate information is reported in SEVIS. Your dedication and commitment to doing
the right thing shows.
I look forward to continuing our commitment together as we strengthen national security and
welcome international exchange of ideas and ideals.
