The timber was seized Dec. 20, 2015 by HSI at the Port of Houston, Texas for violation of the Lacey Act and customs law. It was destroyed in accordance with a settlement agreement reached by the United States and the importer of the timber, Oregon-based Popp Forest Products Inc.

Sean Gerson, 48, the owner of a business called Vaccination Services in Lake Forest, was taken into custody by special agents with ICE HSI, the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations, and the EPA. Gerson is scheduled to make his initial appearance Tuesday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

Martez Alando Gurley, 41, and Victor Lamar Coates, 47, admitted that they each trafficked more than 10,000 counterfeit tablets. On Dec. 6, U.S. District Judge David Hittner sentenced Gurley to 75 months in federal prison and ordered him to pay $410,508 in restitution to Pfizer Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company — the licensed patent trademark holders of Viagra and Cialis.

There were roughly 15,000 illegal websites seized and 48,000 erroneous ecommerce links removed over the past year as part of Operation In Our Sites VII, an effort conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Europol, Interpol and members of industry to crackdown on individuals using the Internet to peddle bogus goods and other copyright-protected material that threaten the health and safety of shoppers.

The jackets, seized by HSI in 2015, will eventually end up at nearly 100 local charities. In an event held Tuesday by the NCDA’s office, representatives from the charitable organizations, including The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Long Island, arrived with their empty trucks ready to be filled. Special agents from HSI New York were on hand to deliver the goods.

Nicholas Ramon Ramirez, 60, of Madera, was taken into custody at Del Valle Food, located in the 200 block of 9th Street. During a search of the store, HSI special agents recovered a large quantity of misbranded medications and pharmaceuticals, including three bottles of the powerful pain killer Tramadol, a controlled substance which can cause addiction and even death if misused.

Sidney A. Lucas, 34, was sentenced Aug. 25 to 33 months in prison and ordered to forfeit $100,000 derived from the counterfeit DVD distribution and money laundering scheme. His co-conspirator and girlfriend, Katrice R. Cleary, 24, was sentenced Aug. 26 to three years’ supervised release and ordered to forfeit $50,000.

Victor Lamar Coates, 47, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to conspiring with convicted co-conspirator Martez Gurley, 41, of Napa, California, to traffic in counterfeit and misbranded Viagra and Cialis, and introducing those drugs in interstate commerce.

The charges allege that Marc Alan Misko, 62, Mitchell Jay Misko, 62, David Brian Henrichsen, 51, and Glenn Ford, 63, operated a business selling counterfeit sports merchandise at the Mile High Flea Market from Nov. 14, 2006 to Jan. 10, 2015. The merchandise was falsely marked and identified as official merchandise for the Denver Broncos and other Denver professional and college teams as well as teams based in other cities throughout the country.

The honey likely originated from the same exporter in Vietnam as another 60 tons of honey that was seized by HSI Chicago in the Midwest in April. Wednesday’s seizure was allegedly imported into the United States by a shell importer of record in New York, New York. Agents located the honey by combing through transportation shipping records to piece together its whereabouts.

Tatiana F. Tascon, 40, of Coconut Grove, pleaded guilty to the charges April 13, as part of her sentence she agreed to forfeit $78,949.45 as well as two properties in Miami.
