David Nguyen, 40, of Toronto, Canada, was sentenced and ordered to pay a fine of $10,000.  Nguyen had previously pleaded guilty in October 2016 to one count of conspiracy to distribute MDMA (aka ecstasy, or “mollie”) and marijuana and one count of money laundering conspiracy.

The federal agencies combined efforts to arrest Luis Venancio Cueto-Ruiz, Leonardo Mateo Cueto-Ruiz, and Gilberto Ulloa-Aguirre Dec. 14 in Everett following a probe into their drug trafficking organization, which is believed to be linked to the Sinaloa Cartel. Bail is set at $250,000 each for the three defendants.

A California man was sentenced Tuesday to more than 11 years in federal prison following his conviction for his part in a conspiracy to traffic 132 kilograms (291 lbs.) of methamphetamine through South Texas.

In a series of arrests and searches conducted early Tuesday morning, law enforcement seized approximately eight kilograms of heroin, a number of firearms, approximately $500,000 in cash, luxury vehicles, and Rolex watches. One additional individual was arrested on state charges of trafficking 220 grams or more of cocaine.

Joel Acedo-Ojeda, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez, who also ordered the defendant to forfeit $20 million and pay a $20,000 fine. Acedo-Ojeda pleaded guilty in June 2015 to conspiracy to commit international money laundering.

Jose Luis Cepeda Cortes, 60, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Terry R. Means to two life sentences plus 240 months, which will run concurrently. Cepeda Cortes was convicted at trial in May 2016 on one count of interstate stalking, one count of conspiracy to commit murder for hire and one count of tampering with documents or proceedings.

Sean Libbert, 41, of Newport Beach, pleaded guilty to a series of charges related to a scheme to distribute synthetic drugs commonly called “spice” or “bath salts.” Some of the drugs in this case nearly killed a victim who ingested them, according to the 16-count indictment filed in June 2014 that was the first in the Central District of California involving drug analogues.

Said Imberly Chino Lucero, 28, a permanent resident of the U.S. residing in San Juan, Mexico, and Carlos Andres Herrera-Fernandez, 35, of Lanham, Maryland, were indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury on charges of conspiracy to import and the importation of cocaine into the U.S. and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

They were charged Nov. 23, 2015, by criminal complaint with conspiracy and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, in Bernalillo Country New Mexico.
