Ten years ago in March, the Homeland Security Act set into motion what would be the single-largest government reorganization since the creation of the Department of Defense. One of the agencies in the new Department of Homeland Security was the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, now known as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

McMahon and Perez were in Washington, D.C. for National Police Week. The two were presented a token of appreciation for their service by HSI Deputy Executive Associate Director Derek Benner at ICE headquarters. As HSI National Honor Guard members, in addition to honoring the fallen, they have represented the agency at formal events and ceremonies often at a moment’s notice, leaving lifelong impressions on families and loved ones during their difficult time.

ICE officers arrested 21 previously convicted criminal aliens in an enforcement action targeting at-large criminal aliens and individuals who pose a threat to public safety. Officers from ICE's ERO field office in Washington, D.C. made the arrests throughout Virginia from Sept. 20 to 24. Criminal convictions in the group include felony drug charges, driving under the influence, prescription fraud and weapons crimes.

ICE Director Sarah Saldaña and Manuel Castro Castillo, major general of the National Police of the Dominican Republic, signed the Criminal History Information Sharing (CHIS) memorandum at ICE’s headquarters Wednesday. Deputy Assistant Secretary Luis E. Arreaga of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs also attended the ceremony.

The project was led by Operation Finally Home, an organization that provides mortgage free homes to America’s military heroes, as well as home building firms Miller and Smith and Newland Communities. The groundbreaking for the house begins Nov. 14 and the Goodrich family will move into their new Stafford, Virginia home in March 2017.
