HSI San Diego Special Agent William Thompson was awarded The Attorney General’s Special Commendation which recognizes an ICAC task force or affiliate agency for significant investigative contributions. HSI Norfolk Special Agent Paul Wolpert received the Mission Children’s Child Protection Award which honors a law enforcement officer who made a significant investigative contribution to protect children from abuse or victimization.

The HERO Act of 2015 is Title III of S.178, Justice for Victims Trafficking Act of 2015. It amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to direct the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to operate, within ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a Cyber Crimes Center to provide investigative assistance, training and equipment to support domestic and international investigations by ICE of cyber-related crimes.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Special Agent Victor Avila, Jr., was discharged from the hospital Wednesday and is at home recovering from his wounds. He was shot twice in the leg in the line of duty Tuesday afternoon after he was attacked by unknown assailants while driving between Monterrey, Mexico, and Mexico City.
