Company owner Daniel Lewis “Danny” Hendon, 64, of Paradise Valley, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Neil V. Wake to 12 months in prison followed by a year of home confinement. Hendon also agreed to divest himself of any future ownership, managerial or profit-sharing interest in the DFC organization.

The father and son owners of the Chuy's Mesquite Broiler regional Mexican restaurant chain, along with the company's accountant, will be arraigned in federal court in Tucson Thursday on tax and immigration violations contained in a 19-count indictment stemming from a lengthy probe by U.S. ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the IRS.

SUMCO Phoenix Corporation recently signed an agreement to participate in IMAGE (ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers), a voluntary program in which ICE partners with businesses to reduce unauthorized employment and the use of fraudulent identity documents. SUMCO received its certificate earlier this month formally marking the firm’s entry into the program.

George Valvanis, a New Hampshire man who managed several Dunkin' Donuts stores in Portland, Maine was sentenced in federal court for hiring illegal aliens in a case investigated by U.S. ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). According to court records, Valvanis knowingly employed illegal aliens to work in his stores between 2001 and 2009.

Nine people from Rapid City and the surrounding Black Hills community were indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to harbor aliens and harboring aliens. Four of the nine individuals are charged with an additional count of conspiracy to defraud the United States.

J. Guadalupe Hernandez, the owner of El Jimador Mexican Restaurant in upstate New York, has been charged with harboring three illegal aliens in the basement of his business. ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents found the three men living in the basement during the execution of a search warrant at the restaurant in March 2011.

According to the agreement, in March 2012, HSI audited employee I-9 immigration forms at Mary’s Gone Crackers Inc., based in Gridley. Later, in May 2012, HSI notified the company that 49 of its employees appeared not to be authorized to work in the U.S. After one employee provided corrected documentation, Mary’s Gone Crackers informed ICE the other 48 had resigned or been terminated.
