Rafael Cardenas-Vela, aka Junior, aka Commandante 900, aka Rolex, was sentenced Nov. 17 by U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen to 240 months in prison and ordered to pay a $100,000 in fines. A final order of forfeiture has also been entered for a $5 million money judgment and his interest in a real property on Bluewing Circle in Brownsville, which was purchased with drug proceeds.

A member of the notorious Gulf Cartel, Juan Carlos De La Cruz Reyna, pleaded guilty to bribing a public official in an attempt to ensure safe passage to Mexico after he was released from federal prison. The investigation was conducted by ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with the assistance of the FBI and the Brownsville Police Dept.

Parviz Sheikh Rezaei, the owner of a local supermarket, pleaded guilty to defrauding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamp fraud. The case was investigated by ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with the assistance of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Office of Inspector General.

A 14-count indictment was partially unsealed Thursday revealing narcotics and firearms charges against two Houston residents. Rigoberto Vargas-Munoz and his nephew, Edgar Munoz-Munoz, are Mexican nationals illegally present in the United States that were involved in a long-term narcotics conspiracy.

Derrick Hargrove, 35, from Houston, was sentenced to 180 months imprisonment for trafficking 4.99 kilograms of methamphetamine. His sentence will be followed by five years of supervised release.

Pedro Angel Garcia, 26, from Brownsville, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Rolando Olvera to 78 months for distribution of child pornography. Garcia was also sentenced to 78 months for receipt and possession of child pornography.

Former Rio Hondo, Texas, police officer Armando Duenez pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy to illegally export firearms and failure to appear. Duenez admitted purchasing more than 15 semi-automatic rifles that were later sold in Mexico.

A former lawful permanent resident, who was once an enlisted member of the U.S. Navy, was deported Wednesday to Panama. He had killed two people during a 1977 hostage standoff at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The man was escorted from Buffalo, N.Y., to Panama by officers with ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
