April 26, 2012 — ICE returns stolen and looted art and antiquities to Italy

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano returned seven stolen and looted objects of Italian heritage to Italian Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero during a special ceremony Thursday. The objects were discovered during four investigations conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Full Story

April 25, 2012 — 637 gang members and associates arrested during Project Nefarious

HSI arrested 637 gang members and associates from 168 different gangs during Project Nefarious, an HSI-led operation that targeted transnational street gangs, prison gangs and outlaw motorcycle gangs involved with human smuggling and trafficking organizations. April 25, 2012 — 2 Israeli men sentenced for smuggling counterfeit and misbranded pharmaceuticals into the United States

Two Israeli citizens pleaded guilty Monday and were sentenced for smuggling counterfeit and misbranded pharmaceuticals into the United States. The first defendant was sentenced to 10 months in prison. He must also pay a fine of $30,000 and forfeit $50,000 to the United States. The second defendant was sentenced to one year of probation. He must pay a $15,000 fine and forfeit $15,000 to the United States. Full Story

April 24, 2012 — 9 suspects arrested in HSI probe targeting Fresno-area phony document mills

HSI special agents conducted an operation Monday targeting three large-scale document mills operating in California's Central Valley. During the operation, HSI special agents discovered and seized hundreds of fraudulent identities in the process of being manufactured, along with numerous document-making supplies, including printers and laminators. Nine suspects face federal criminal charges for their involvement in the production and distribution of counterfeit identification documents. Full Story

April 23, 2012 — Former El Paso businessman arrested in connection to ammunition smuggling scheme

HSI special agents arrested the former owner of the largest supplier of law enforcement gear, supplies and ammunition in the Southwest Monday. He is charged in connection with a scheme to smuggle ammunition and other prohibited items into Mexico. Full Story
