San Juan BEST seizes 28 kilograms of cocaine from cargo ship

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The San Juan-based, multi-agency Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST) seized approximately 28 kilograms of cocaine Tuesday hidden in a container arriving at the Port of San Juan from the Dominican Republic.

The contraband, which tested positive for cocaine during a field test, was found onboard the M/V Freemantle Express arriving from Caucedo, Dominican Republic.

Although there were no arrests associated with this seizure, the investigation continues.

The San Juan BEST incorporates law enforcement and intelligence resources from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Puerto Rico Police Department, Coast Guard, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, San Juan Police Department, Colombian National Police, Puerto Rico Ports Authority and Puerto Rico's Department of Treasury. These resources focus their investigative, interdiction and intelligence assets towards the identification, prioritization and investigation of emerging or existing threats related to our borders.
