South Florida man sentenced to 63 months for possessing child pornography

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - A 55-year-old local man was sentenced Tuesday to more than five years in federal prison for possessing child pornography, following a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) investigation.

Michael Lee Sherman was sentenced on Oct. 27 by U.S. District Court Judge Jose E. Martinez to 63 months in prison. Sherman pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography on June 24.

In September 2008, ICE special agents in Ft. Pierce obtained a search warrant for Sherman's residence and seized four computers, and computer digital devices and media. While executing the search warrant, Sherman stated that he downloaded child pornography, masturbated to the images, and then deleted the child pornography to avoid detection. An ICE computer forensic examination confirmed the presence of deleted child pornography.

The investigation was conducted by the ICE Office of Investigations in Ft. Pierce. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rinku Tribuiani, Southern District of Texas, prosecuted the case.
