Joint Terrorism Task Force
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) was established in New York City in 1980 to bring the full capabilities of the federal government to the fight against terrorism. Today there are nearly 200 JTTFs throughout the United States and HSI represents the largest federal contributor of personnel outside of the FBI to the JTTFs. HSI special agents use their unique investigative and enforcement authorities related to immigration and cross-border trade to detect, disrupt, prosecute and remove terrorists and to dismantle terrorist organizations. At a headquarters level, HSI has a strong and critical partnership with the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division (CTD). HSI special agents and intelligence personnel are directly embedded within CTD’s operational and command elements and provide HSI field offices with case support and coordination of complex counterterrorism investigations.
