On August 1, 2019, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested unlawfully present Guatemalan national Carlos Santos-Hernandez for the offense of assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female, communicating threats and booked him into the Mecklenburg County Detention Center (MCDC). These charges are still pending.
On August 2, 2019, the Pacific Enforcement Response Center lodged an Immigration Detainer.
On August 3, 2019, MCDC released SANTOS on bond despite the presence of an ICE detainer. He remains at large.
