Juan Francisco Saenz-Tamez, 23, of Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, pleaded guilty to distribution and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Saenz-Tamez entered his guilty plea Jan. 13 before U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

Howard Jay Bonifant, a 26-year-old resident of Las Vegas, Nev., was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in federal prison following his guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. The investigation was a cooperative effort among ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the FBI, and the Billings Big Sky Safe Streets Task Force.

According to the investigation, David Saul Salazar, 49, Packwood, Washington, was traveling with Gregorio Capetillo and Luis Parra Magana from Washington state to Minot, North Dakota.  During that trip, Berthold police chief stopped the car and discovered about 10 pounds of methamphetamine and multiple firearms.

Esteban Villegas-Gamez, 39, formerly of Bellevue admitted in a May plea agreement to selling methamphetamine and firearms to a confidential informant working with investigators. Court records state Villegas-Gamez made multiple illegal sales between November 2013 and January 2014. He admitted the combined total of the methamphetamine he sold the informant during the different transactions was in excess of 50 grams.

The operation, which resulted in 40 arrests and resulted in the seizure of 10 kilograms of deadly fentanyl, was the culmination of a multi-agency federal investigation which targeted major traffickers of fentanyl, opioids and other drugs, as well as repeat felony offenders, many of whom were also illegally present in the U.S.; eight aliens had already previously been deported at least once before and will be prosecuted for criminal re-entry.

Philip Goodwin, 37 of Lynn, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, one count of conspiracy to traffic counterfeit drugs, one count of trafficking counterfeit drugs, one count of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and one count of money laundering conspiracy. U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton scheduled sentencing for Feb. 28, 2018.

In a series of arrests and searches conducted early Tuesday morning, law enforcement seized approximately eight kilograms of heroin, a number of firearms, approximately $500,000 in cash, luxury vehicles, and Rolex watches. One additional individual was arrested on state charges of trafficking 220 grams or more of cocaine.

David Nguyen, 40, of Toronto, Canada, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute MDMA (aka “ecstasy” or “mollie”) and marijuana; and one count of conspiracy to launder money. Nguyen was indicted in January 2014, arrested in Canada in May 2014 and extradited to the United States in October 2016 after he temporarily surrendered to the United States.
