Clifford Reed, 27, of Cincinnati, Ohio, allegedly purchased multi-kilogram quantities of heroin from various sources in Chicago; He then allegedly mixed it with carfentanil to increase the amount of heroin he could distribute. Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid listed federally as a Schedule II controlled substance.

Fresno, CA

According to the first indictment, between Feb. 1 and July 21, Christopher Martinez Sr., 45; Randy Seja, 24; Felix Gago, 40; and Christopher Martinez Jr., 23, conspired to possess and distribute methamphetamine. In the second indictment, Gilberto Zarate, 34; Jorge Calestino Alvarez-Arias, 27; Marco Mosqueda, 27; Frances Reyna, 55; Gabriel Galvan, 27; Rafael Delatorre, 32; Jose Delatorre, 22; Alfonso Esparza, 38; and Gabriel Esparza, 37, are charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamine; possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine; and distribution of  methamphetamine. Zarate, along with Alfonso Esparza and Gabriel Esparza, are also charged with being felons in possession of firearms. The third indictment adds defendant Cecilio Alaniz, 26, and Christopher Valdez, 35, to an indictment that originally charged Jesse Mendoza, 36, and Roxana Dodier, 23.

According to the indictment, Carlos Morales-Davila, Jose Silva-Rentas, Luis Lopez-Fernandez, Jaime Serrano-Cardona, Randy Barbosa-Martinez, Julio Colon-Maldonado, Jorge Acevedo-Martinez, Francisco Pimentel-Maldonado, Alexis Sanchez-Diaz, Jose Claudio-Del Valle, Luis Santana-Mendoza, Jorge Bobonis-Rexach, Felipe Gomez-Encarnacion and Hector Orta-Castro conspired to import cocaine and heroin into the United States from Venezuela, Colombia and Dominican Republic.

The case is a result of a three-year investigation by various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Michael J. Hernandez, 25, from Orlando, and Jonell Philip Vega-Mercado, 19, from Clermont, were charged with conspiracy to import and possession with the intent to distribute Flakka, a Schedule 1 controlled substance.

A Pittsburgh resident, David Michael Spaid, was sentenced Wednesday to 24 months in prison for transporting stolen nickel from Pennsylvania to Texas. The investigation was conducted by ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Brendan Clery, 34, of Miami, pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegally importing about 278,256 kilograms of the ozone depleting substance hydro chlorofluorocarbon-22 (HCFC-22), following an investigation by U.S. ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Criminal Investigation Division.
