2 El Salvadoran men arrested in New Mexico on federal drug trafficking charges

HSI special agents arrest defendants, 124 lbs. of cocaine found in tractor-trailer seized

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Two men from El Salvador made their initial appearances Tuesday in federal court on criminal complaints charging them with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

These charges resulted from an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the New Mexico State Police and the New Mexico Motor Transportation Police.

Jose Remberto Guzman-Dominguez, 33, and Miguel Angel Rodriguez-Flores, 47, were arrested Nov. 14 on a criminal complaint by HSI special agents after officers of the New Mexico Motor Transportation Police allegedly found about 124 pounds of cocaine in their tractor-trailer. The drugs were discovered during a routine inspection at the port of entry on Interstate 10 near Lordsburg, New Mexico.

If convicted of the charges, Guzman-Dominguez and Rodriguez-Flores each face a maximum statutory sentence of life in federal prison. Charges in criminal complaints are merely accusations and defendants are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
