HSI Philadelphia investigation leads to DMV fraud conviction

PHILADELPHIA — A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) case led to the conviction of a Mexican citizen Wednesday for making fake West Virginia driver’s licenses.

The HSI investigation revealed that Garcia Campos, also known as "Chicano," conspired with a Department of Motor Vehicles employee to sell identification documents to foreign nationals.

"This conviction leaves no doubt that there are serious consequences for those people who try to exploit our system," said John P. Kelleghan, special agent in charge of HSI Philadelphia. "The message is simple. If you commit fraud, you can be sure HSI special agents are aggressively seeking you out."

Campos pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting unlawful production of identification document. He faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Under the federal sentencing guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any.
