ICE HSI task force members assist USMS in arrest of Austin man wanted for deadly stabbing

ICE HSI task force members assist USMS in the arrest of Donald Paul Carrillo in Austin, Texas. He was charged for the stabbing death of an Austin man.

AUSTIN, Texas – A central Texas man is facing homicide charges for the stabbing death of another man.

Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) assigned to the Austin office deployed its members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) Austin Division to assist on the arrest of Donald Paul Carrillo, 24. On Jan. 23, Carrillo was involved in a deadly stabbing that took place in the entertainment district of 6th street.

On Sunday, the Austin Police Department (APD) requested assistance from the LSFTF to locate and apprehend Carrillo. Carrillo was wanted for the stabbing incident that took place on the 400 block of East 6th Street, Austin. This is where police discovered the victim with multiple stab wounds. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

LSFTF developed information that indicated Carrillo was possibly located at an apartment complex on William Cannon Drive.

On Jan. 26, members of the LSFTF arrested Carrillo at a residence located on the 2200 block of W. William Cannon Drive in Austin without incident.

Carrillo was transported and booked into the Travis County Jail where he will await judicial proceedings. His bond was set at $1 million.

The Travis District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting this case.

The LSFTF Austin combines personnel from ICE HSI Austin, Austin Police Department-Tactical Intelligence Unit, Georgetown and Round Rock Police Departments, Travis, Caldwell, Hays, Williamson, and Bastrop County Sheriff’s Offices, Texas Attorney General’s Office, Texas Department of Criminal Justice OIG, Texas Department of Public Safety, and ICE ERO.

HSI is a directorate of ICE and the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), responsible for investigating transnational crime and threats, specifically those criminal organizations that exploit the global infrastructure through which international trade, travel, and finance move. HSI’s workforce of over 10,400 employees consists of more than 7,100 Special Agents assigned to 220 cities throughout the United States, and 80 overseas locations in 53 countries. HSI’s international presence represents DHS’s largest investigative law enforcement presence abroad and one of the largest international footprints in U.S. law enforcement.
