ICE removes foreign fugitive wanted in Guatemala for homicide

HARLINGEN, Texas – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Harlingen Field Office removed a foreign fugitive wanted in Guatemala for homicide.

Guatemalan national Moises Paiz Guevara, 47, was flown from Alexandria, Louisiana, to Guatemala International Airport on a flight coordinated by ICE’s Air Operations Unit. Upon arrival, the fugitive was turned over to the National Police of Guatemalan authorities on April 27.

On Nov. 13, 2001, Guevara was arrested by ICE ERO Newark near Sommerville, NJ for being illegally present in the US. On Dec. 4, an immigration judge, with the Executive Office for Immigration Review issued him a final order of removal. On Jan. 17, 2002, Guevara was removed back to his home country without incident.

On Oct. 12, 2021, Guevara illegally re-entered the United States near Laredo, Texas, and was arrested by immigration officials and charged with re-entry after deportation. He was then taken into federal custody pending that charge. On March 10, 2022, the United States District Court, Southern District of Texas, convicted Guevara of illegal re-entry. He received a sentence of time served. On March 14, he was transferred into ICE custody where he remained until his removal.

ICE focuses its civil immigration enforcement priorities on the apprehension and removal of noncitizens who pose a threat to our national security, public safety and border security, consistent with all legal requirements and applicable court orders.
