ICE removes Mexican sex offender, known gang associate from US

SAN DIEGO – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) deportation officers removed an unlawfully present Mexican national convicted of sex offenses. Jesus Chavez-Santiago, 22, was removed from the U.S. via the port of entry in San Ysidro, May 24.

In December 2020, Chavez-Santiago, a documented member of the Varrio San Marcos gang, was convicted in the Superior Court of California in San Diego County for lewd acts upon a child.

“Chavez-Santiago has demonstrated through his criminal actions that he has no regard for the laws of the U.S., and I’m pleased our deportation officers were able to accomplish our mission of safeguarding the public by arresting and removing him from our country,” said Jamison Matuszewski, ERO San Diego field office director. “ERO San Diego deportation officers are professionals who protect the homeland, especially from those who threaten our most vulnerable population.”

Regardless of nationality, ICE makes custody determinations on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with U.S. law and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policy.

Members of the public who have information about foreign fugitives are urged to contact ICE by calling the ICE Tip Line at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE or internationally at 001-1802-872-6199. They can also file a tip online by completing ICE’s online tip form.
