IHSC senior health policy administrator inducted into American Academy of Nursing 2022 Class of Fellows

WASHINGTON – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Health Service Corps (IHSC) senior health policy administrator announced the American Academy of Nursing inducting Rear Adm. Aisha K. Mix into the 2022 Class of Fellows, Oct. 29. The announcement was made at the academy’s annual Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C.

The academy inducts fellows into the organization for extraordinary contributions to improve health locally and globally. The academy represents nursing’s most accomplished leaders in policy, research, administration, practice, and academia. Induction into the academy is a significant milestone in which colleagues honor inductees for past and current accomplishments.

“I am forever grateful for the experience, education for life, and foundation that culminated in such high recognition,” Mix said of the induction into the 2022 Class of Fellows.

Mix became the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps chief nurse officer Oct. 1, 2019. As chief nurse, Mix provides guidance and advice to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Surgeon General, and the nation’s nursing community on prevention, public health, health systems development, and the role of the nursing workforce in achieving health and wellness in the country.

Concurrently, Mix serves as IHSC’s senior health policy administrator. In this capacity, she leads the IHSC Office of Policy, advises IHSC senior leadership on policy implications on the IHSC health system, and ensures compliance with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE policies, strategic goals, standards, and priorities.

IHSC administers and manages a health care system that provides direct care to detained noncitizens housed at 19 designated ICE facilities throughout the nation, to include medical, dental, mental health care, and public health services.
