Mexican citizen sentenced for illegally re-entering the US

MADISON, Wis. — A Mexican citizen was sentenced in federal court Monday to 21 months in prison for illegally re-entering the United States after being deported.

This sentenced resulted from an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Raul Vivas-Ceja, 34, had previously pleaded guilty to the charge on Dec. 19, 2014.

Vivas-Ceja was deported from the United States on Oct. 8, 2010. He illegally re-entered the country and was again deported Sept. 28, 2012, after serving a 12-month sentence for a felony related to fleeing and eluding conviction in Dane County, Wisconsin.

Vivas-Ceja illegally returned a third time and was arrested Sept. 22, 2013, when he attempted to pass through security at the Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin. He presented false documents to TSA agents.
