Mexican national wanted for rape arrested in California
LOS ANGELES — A Mexican national wanted in his home country for rape was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations officers, commonly called ICE and ERO, respectively, in Rowland Heights, California Dec. 6.
On December 15, 2020, the Control Court of Cuicatlan in Oaxaca, Mexico, issued a criminal arrest warrant for Marcelino Guzman-Jimenez for the offense of rape. ERO Los Angeles officers apprehended Guzman, 41, during a targeted enforcement operation. Guzman entered the United States at an unknown date, time and location without being admitted or paroled by an immigration officer. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings and will be returned to his home country.
“ERO Los Angeles will seek out and return noncitizens that are wanted in their home countries for violent offenses,” said Thomas P. Giles, field office director of ERO Los Angeles. “We will take aggressive action to ensure this rapist and others like him do not evade justice simply by crossing into the United States.”
ICE’s ERO directorate upholds U.S. immigration law at, within and beyond our borders. ERO operations target public safety threats, such as convicted criminal noncitizens and gang members, as well as individuals who have otherwise violated our nation's immigration laws, including those who illegally re-entered the country after being removed and immigration fugitives ordered removed by federal immigration judges. ERO deportation officers assigned to Interpol also assist in targeting foreign fugitives and in fugitive arrest and removal cases involving those who are wanted for crimes committed abroad and who are now at-large in the United States. ERO manages all aspects of the immigration enforcement process, including identification and arrest, detention, bond management, supervised release, transportation and removal. In addition, ERO repatriates noncitizens ordered removed from the U.S. to more than 170 countries around the world.
