NYPD Commissioner visits HSI New York

Commissioner Bratton and SAC Melendez

New York City Police Department Commissioner William Bratton was the guest speaker Tuesday, Aug. 16, at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York’s quarterly leadership workshop.

Bratton, one of the most widely-recognized faces in American law enforcement, spoke to HSI New York about policing, leadership and the importance of collaboration.  As the Police Commissioner in New York City, Bratton introduced many initiatives that have been credited with reducing crime.  He recently announced he is retiring after nearly 46 years in law enforcement.

“As a leader in law enforcement innovation, we were so pleased and honored to have the opportunity for Commissioner Bratton to address the current and future leaders of HSI,” said Angel M. Melendez, HSI New York special agent in charge. “His leadership style and practices have transformed the way we do our jobs, creating safer communities to raise our children.”

In attendance were HSI managers as well as members of HSI New York’s Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program. HSI New York developed and implemented LEAD as a local training and coaching program for aspiring leaders within the organization. The program serves a crucial role in developing the HSI leaders of today and preparing those who will drive the organization tomorrow. The program is designed to provide participants with a leadership and management development platform, while building solid management mentor relationships.
