Oklahoma City man to serve 51 months in prison for illegally smuggling firearm shell casings to Iran and possessing opium with intent to distribute

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — An Oklahoma City man was sentenced Friday to 51 months in federal prison for illegally smuggling firearm shell casings to Iran and possessing opium with intent to distribute.

This sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Sanford C. Coats, Western District of Oklahoma.

This case resulted from an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

According to court records, on July 2, 2014, Majid Iranpour Mobarekeh, 45, illegally sent and exported 450 firearm shell casings from the United States to the Republic of Iran.  He was also charged with illegally possessing opium on Oct. 2, 2014, with the intent to distribute.  On Feb. 26, 2015, Mobarekeh pleaded guilty to both charges.  After he serves his 51-month prison sentence, Mobarekeh was ordered to serve three years on supervised release.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David P. Petermann, Western District of Oklahoma.
