Pennsylvania man admits to bath salt distribution conspiracy

HARRISBURG, Penn. – A Pittston, Pennsylvania, man pleaded guilty Wednesday to his role in a conspiracy to distribute synthetic drugs. The guilty plea comes after an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Alan Folweiler, 21, admitted his involvement as part of a group distributing alpha-pvp, a synthetic drug commonly known as bath salts during 2011 through 2013.

A grand jury indicted Folweiler in August 2014, following an investigation by HSI, the Pennsylvania State Police, and West Pittston Police.

“Bath salts and other chemically made drugs are extremely dangerous and pose serious health risks to our communities,” said John Kelleghan, special agent in charge HSI Philadelphia. “This is just one example of HSI’s commitment to track down and dismantle those who import and distribute these destructive chemicals.”

Indictments and criminal informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.

At sentencing, Folweiler faces a maximum of 20 years imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a $1 million fine.
