Previously convicted west Texas sex offender sentenced to nearly 30 years for coercing, enticing a minor

MIDLAND, Texas — A 37-year-old west Texas man, who was a previously convicted sex offender, was sentenced Thursday to 29 years and seven months in federal prison for coercing and enticing a minor.

This sentence resulted from an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Kenneth Simon Brzoznowski, from Midland Texas, was also ordered to be placed under supervised release for 10 years after he completes his federal prison term. On Oct. 17, 2014, Brzoznowski pleaded guilty to using a cell phone to entice a minor female to engage in sexual activity.

According to court records, Brzoznowski used a phone application called "Tango" to have a sexually explicit conversation with a female minor. This application was discovered by Brzoznowski's parole officer. Brzoznowski was previously incarcerated in 2005 for attempting to meet a 13-year-old girl to have sex.

"Part of HSI's mandate is to protect children in our community from predators who want to harm them," said Waldemar Rodriguez, special agent in charge of HSI El Paso. "We aggressively pursue this mission."

Assistant U.S. Attorney Austin Berry, Western District of Texas, prosecuted this case.
