CBS News' 60 Minutes features ICE-HSI bust of a multi-billion-dollar Colombian 'Super Cartel'

WASHINGTON, DC — This past Sunday, Nov. 18, CBS News' 60 MINUTES aired a story highlighting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigation and take down of the Pacific Rim "Super Cartel" based in Colombia. ICE-HSI worked closely with the Colombian National Police and Mexican authorities to dismantle the cartel with a profit margin in the billions. The drug kingpins wrestled with a vexing problem – they made so much money from illegal narcotics trafficking that they couldn't launder it all. ICE-HSI special agents, working with HSI Bogota and elsewhere, brought this giant among drug organizations to its knees.

In this story, 60 MINUTES' correspondent Lara Logan interviews members of the HSI Bogota team who investigated the cartel, joins HSI special agents and Colombian National Police on a jungle cocaine lab raid, and films the arrest of one of the cartel's top leaders. Last week's program finished number 6 in Nielsen's Top 10 List and drew more than 14 million viewers.
