Twenty people were arrested Wednesday following the two separate federal grand jury indictments charging 22 defendants with crimes related to trafficking methamphetamine and international money laundering. A federal judge Monday sentenced heroin trafficker Steven Michael Carrasco to 57 months in federal prison, following an investigation by special agents with ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

U.S. District Judge George L. Russell III sentenced Narada Walls, age 38, of Salisbury, Maryland, today to 12 years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for conspiracy to possess and to distribute fentanyl and fentanyl analogues.  Fentanyl analogues are chemical compounds designed to have effects similar to fentanyl and can be just as deadly.  Judge Russell also ordered that Walls must forfeit anything of value seized during the investigation, including $29,650 in cash.

Jesus Garcia, 42, pleaded guilty in 2014 to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine base. A total of 19 defendants were charged in the conspiracy; most have been convicted and sentenced to prison terms ranging from 18 months to 20 years in federal prison.

Jorge Molina-Sanchez, 35, of Mexico, was convicted by a federal jury in May 2013 of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute at least five kilograms of cocaine and at least one kilogram of heroin, conspiracy to launder proceeds of drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Dean Myrie, a Jamaican national, pleaded guilty Tuesday to kidnapping a fellow member of a drug organization who was later murdered. The investigation was conducted by ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Baltimore County Police Department Homicide/Missing Persons Unit and the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

On Feb. 14, following a three-day jury trial, Conrado Depaz Arellano, 48, illegally residing in Carthage, Texas, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.  Additionally, on Feb. 12, 2018, Arellano pleaded guilty to being illegally in the United States after having been deported.

Last fall, Sanchez Lackland, 35, of Hazel Crest, Illinois, imported methoxyacetyl fentanyl from China, according to an indictment returned Wednesday in federal court in Chicago. The indictment also charges Jermol Mixon, 35, of Orland Park, Illinois, with drug and weapons offenses.

Jack Vitayanon, 41, is an attorney with the IRS for the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) in Washington. Vitayanon is facing charges of conspiring with others to distribute 500 grams or more of Methamphetamine.

Las Cruces, NM

Benjamin David Romero, 38, and co-defendant Roque Henry Atencio, 42, both of Las Cruces, were arrested Feb. 6 on a criminal complaint charging them with methamphetamine trafficking. According to the complaint, Romero and Atencio sold two bags containing an aggregate of 47.35 grams of pure methamphetamine to undercover law enforcement agents in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, on April 2, 2015.

Robin Michael Gattis, a 20-year-old Wasilla man who pleaded guilty Friday to a federal drug conspiracy charge, now faces up to 20 years in federal prison for leading a methylone production and distribution ring linked to at least one death.
