Federal jury in Dallas convicts Mexican man of illegally re-entering US after previously being deported
DALLAS — A Mexican man living in Dallas was found guilty Tuesday following his two-day trial for illegally re-entering the United States after having been previously deported.
This guilty verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney John Parker of the Northern District of Texas. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) investigated this case.
Ignacio Arellano-Banuelos, 36, faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. He has been in custody since his arrest in June 2016. Sentencing is set for July 31. Arellano-Banuelos will be deported after serving his sentence.
According to evidence presented at trial, on May 8, 2015, Arellano-Banuelos was found in the United States after having been deported and removed on Sept. 10, 2009. He did not receive consent to enter the United States from the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security since his deportation.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Shane Read and Lynn Javier, Northern District of Texas, are in charge of this prosecution.
