Legal Assistant

OPLA’s Legal Assistants create a foundation for attorneys during immigration court by developing, organizing, and maintaining immigration and criminal file materials and research aids. They support attorneys by researching and gathering data on case precedents, status of aliens, criminal records and background checks, locating alien files (A-files), cases on detained and non-detained dockets, status of appeals and motions for immigration court cases. They assist attorneys in preparing correspondence and basic motions; and provide documents in response to requests from various offices.
